Comfort : Made an Episcopal see by Charlemagne in 889, Osnabrueck is today a busy place of students, commerce and industry. Conferencing has a long tradition here, as the negotiations leading to the Peace of Westphalia and ending the 30 Years' War, were held in Osnabrueck in the 17th century. It is also the birthplace of Erich Maria Remarque who achieved world fame with his novel 'All quiet on the Western Front'. Osnabrück is a busy commercial and industrial city, linked by a branch canal to the Mittelland Canal. It is attractively framed by the hills of the Teutoburg Forest with its many resorts and the Hermann Monument, commemorating the battle fought by Hermann the Teutonic against the Romans. The hotel's location could not be better: it is downtown, directly opposite the picturesque Old Town. On top of that the Steigenberger Hotel Remarque is renowned for its culinary highlights as well as for its conference and banqueting facilities.
